INTE1: Millionaires Project

So the Millionaires project was a presentation that showcases a technology that we had decided to develop with a million pounds for a specific client.

Given a choice for 3 clients we were to pick one and choose a brief business idea that could also be started with the money.

I had a few initial ideas to revolutionise the running shoe by creating a shoe where it would mould to the foot meaning that you would no longer get discomfort or blisters from running.

I researched this initial concept and came across a few links which could be useful:

I quickly abandoned it, as it could be hard to make the presentation last a reasonable duration with this concept and brainstormed to think of a new one.

My later and final idea, was the concept of a global currency, which is something already under discussion by some of the key superpowers of todays world as talked about in this article in the Independent Business section on The demise of the dollar.

I was introduced to TED talks a little while back and have become continuously amazed and inspired by some of the talks which are given there, and are posted for all to watch. More TED Talks can be found at TED.com

All though not actually technology itself, TED Talks certainly talk about it and bring up some amazing concepts such as the ‘One Human Brain’ mentioned by Kevin Kelly and his talk about the next 5000 days of the web.

This talks about this concept of uniting the world, not on a monetary level, but a technological level and helped inspire a few ideas for this project. With this concept I was able to cover all of the key areas required for the brief. These included researching past and present technologies as well as similar technologies which may link in to our proposed idea.

I talked confidently about my proposed new global currency and presented a small Microsoft Power Point adding a few joking slides here and there to ease any feelings of being nervous I had.

I did well and produced distinction grade work All I have to do is maintain this level of standard in my continuing work. A small paper on the project can be found here along with all the reference material I came across through research.

Once again this is on Google Docs as are all my other papers; I will update this as soon as possible.

Flash Woaa !!

(Flash Gordon any one? … No? Just me then)

Anyways… so one thing we looked into was Adobe Flash

I had never used Flash before, so it was interesting to use and experiment with it making animations.

It was whilst learning the software and my existing experience with web design which helped me create my website.

It was later whilst experimenting with animation in class that I realised how little space flash animations used, it was with Flash I was able to create this ‘Work in Progress’ page.

This meant that when rendering an animation in Max, you could import the single frames into Flash and make the animation that way rather than render as an AVI, this would reduce considerably the file size meaning quicker loading times for web design.

New Tech 2: Boston Dynamics Dog

Just some random videos I came. This one we came across in class from Boston Dynamics and features some crazy big dog

Look at how that thing moves, granted it may be a bit weird, but major kudos on developing the technology to allow such a design to have unprecedented mobility.

Trust someone to go and make a parody of it! This video is hilariously funny: Boston Dynamics parody from Seedwell

HTML Coding and DreamWeaver

One of the first things we did was learning basic coding and Dream Weaver for web design.

Dream Weaver initially seemed complicated, as any program is when you’re not used to it I suppose.

We set about creating basic pages using both layers and tables including pictures and changing basic parameters including text colour and font.

Surprisingly I found coding a website ‘easier’ than designing it in Dream Weaver but again, this is probable due to how unaccustomed I am to both using Macs, (being predominantly a Windows user) as well as the software.

Band of Brothers

As we looked at several examples of moving images, our first mini project or small task was to provide an example of this; taking into account its possible origin.

I chose the Band of Brothers intro as it is a great atmospheric piece of editing.

The original source of this style of imagery could be from the style of   The Magnificent Eleven: The D-Day Photographs of Robert Capa.

These images were taken at the D-Day landing but unfortunately when the images returned to be developed;

“A darkroom technician was almost as anxious to see the invasion images as Capa himself. In his haste, the technician dried the film too quickly. The excess heat melted the emulsion on all but 10 of the frames. Those that remained are surreal shots, which succinctly conveyed the chaos and confusion of the day.”

Vacation Project; Reference for INTA1

Hey,

Here is a link to the first project we had which was to be done during our summer vacation back in August 2009. It is posted on Google Docs, the project can be viewed as a PDF hosted on my site by scrolling to the link at the bottom of this page.

Summer Vacation Project

The project was to evaluate a piece of technology and how it has been perceived by different forms of the media.

I chose to do the project on the several updates of the Xbox Dashboard focusing around its new features such as the introduction to the avatars.

Currently I have posted the project on Google Docs, but in the near future it will be more easily viewable as I will be hosting the document myself.

*Update*

I have now got round to posting the PDF on my own website; which can been seen by clicking below, from now on I will post all my documents this way, so any one wanting to view these documents do not require a Google account. Enjoy.

New Tech 1: The Fun Theory

New technology is something we started discussing in class.

One of the first things which came up were these amazing videos from;

The Fun Theory

The Fun Theory is a site and a series of viral videos from ad agency DBB Stockholm.

“This site is dedicated to the thought that something as simple as fun is the easiest way to change people’s behaviour for the better.

Be it for yourself, for the environment, or for something entirely different, the only thing that matters is that it’s changed for the better.”

These videos are amazing and continuously inspire me in little ways as I now make a conscious choice to walk up stairs rather than take an escalator when possible thanks to one of their videos.

VALE1: Youtube Project

Hey

One of our first projects we had was to create a video post demonstrating simple video editing with music overlay.

The video shows my progression through Autodesk’s 3D Studio Max 9 and Reactor 3.0 where in this scene a car crashes into some boxes.

I posted my video to You Tube over a month ago and can be viewed here…

3D Studio Max Reactor Test

Which I’m happy to say has got over 400 views as of this post.
